Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year Award
The Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year Award (February 12, 2004) is presented to the top high school football coach in the Tri-State area. 144 area schools may nominate an athlete for this award. The winner is chosen based on their teaching skills, sportsmanship, dedication to players, and commitment to education. The award is handed out at the annual Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes Banquet.

Steve Channell has served as the Head Football Coach for Edgewood since 1989. He led the Cougars to a 14-1 record in the 2003 season and was the Ohio Division II state runner-up. Along with football, Mr. Channell also takes an active role in the community and with his players in the classroom. He and his team participate in the city's "Make a Difference Day," the "Cougar for Kids" program and in the many of the area's youth football programs. In 2003, 17 of his 45 varsity players had a GPA of 3.0 or better. |
