Troy Everhart has become a familiar face in the Winton Woods community. To most, he is best known as the Winton Woods head football coach who has led the Warriors to three FAVC championships as well as appearances in the Division II State Playoffs the past two years. He owns a .600 winning percentage in his eight years at Winton Woods and was named FAVC coach of the year in 2000.
Those who play for Everhart know him as more than a coach though. He is a mentor, teacher, and father figure to the young men who play for him. Everhart started “lunch bunch” tutoring, after school study tables, and SAT/ACT prep classes for his players. He also applied for and received the first "Play it Smart" program through the National Football Foundation. "Play it Smart" is designed to take a student-athletes passion for sport and intense dedication to their team and transform it into a force for greater good in their lives. At less than a dollar-a-day per student-athlete, the programhas sent 80% of its participants onto college. Additionally, he has emphasized community service with his players encouraging them to participate in a mentoring program and spring cleanup at a local YMCA.
Coach Everhart has consistently gone beyond the call of duty for his players. From reaching into his own pocket to make sure that players can pay the standardized test fees to driving players to recruiting visits, Everhart has done whatever it takes to make sure his players succeed on and off the field.
For his passion and dedication to making his players better men and students, Coach Troy Everhart is the 2006 recipient of the Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year Award.
